Our mission is simple: to provide beauty that is accessible and affordable for everyone. Our experienced therapists offer personalised skin treatments, including IPL skin treatments, chemical peels, microneedling, dermaplaning treatments, RF skin tightening, and more!
Dermaplaning is a professional exfoliation treatment performed by a trained therapist using a sterile surgical blade. It gently removes built-up dead skin cells and fine vellus hair (peach fuzz), leaving the skin smoother, brighter and better able to absorb skincare products.
How it works:
Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation treatment that uses a sterile surgical blade to gently remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells (the stratum corneum) along with fine vellus hair (often referred to as “peach fuzz”).
By physically lifting this layer, dermaplaning immediately smooths the skin’s surface and enhances light reflection — which is why skin looks instantly brighter and more even post-treatment.
Unlike chemical exfoliation, dermaplaning does not rely on acids, making it an ideal option for those who are sensitive, reactive, or looking for a more controlled form of exfoliation. It works by clearing built-up keratinised cells that can contribute to dullness, uneven texture and congestion, while also allowing for improved penetration of active skincare ingredients applied afterwards.
At Skinology, dermaplaning is often used as both a standalone treatment or paired with other modalities to enhance results. By creating a clean, smooth surface, it allows treatments like enzyme masks, peels or LED to work more effectively.
What it feels like:
Dermaplaning is a completely painless treatment and is often described as a soft brushing or light scraping sensation across the skin.
You’ll feel the blade gently gliding over the surface, removing built-up dead skin and fine hair — but there’s no heat, no vibration and no discomfort. Most clients find it relaxing, and some even say it feels a bit like a dry facial massage.
There’s no pulling or dragging on the skin, just a smooth, controlled movement that leaves your skin feeling instantly soft and refreshed.
Down time:
There is no downtime with dermaplaning, which makes it a perfect “in and out” treatment.
Your skin may appear slightly pink immediately after, but this typically settles within a few hours. Most clients leave with an instant glow and noticeably smoother skin.
You can return to normal activities straight away, and makeup will apply beautifully post-treatment — often sitting more evenly due to the removal of surface buildup and fine hair.
Just keep in mind your skin may be slightly more sensitive to sun exposure, so SPF is essential following your treatment.
No — vellus hair grows back at the same rate and texture. Dermaplaning won't change the thickness, colour or speed of hair growth.
Dermaplaning can help:
• Remove dead skin buildup
• Improve skin texture and smoothness
• Allow skincare products to absorb more effectively
• Help makeup apply more smoothly
• Instantly brighten dull skin
Every 4–6 weeks is ideal to maintain smoothness, glow and optimal product absorption.
Dermaplaning can help reduce surface congestion, but it isn’t suitable over active acne. We’ll assess your skin and recommend the right approach for you. But no, we do not usually recommend this service.
Yes — and many clients find it applies far more evenly after dermaplaning.
Dermaplaning is a professional exfoliation treatment performed by a trained therapist using a sterile surgical blade. It gently removes built-up dead skin cells and fine vellus hair (peach fuzz), leaving the skin smoother, brighter and better able to absorb skincare products.
Those small “trinkle” or facial razors are designed for basic hair removal, not professional skin exfoliation.
Professional dermaplaning is different because:
• Blade quality – we use sterile surgical blades designed for controlled exfoliation
• Technique – the treatment is performed at specific angles and pressures to safely remove dead skin cells
• Skin preparation – the skin is properly cleansed, prepped and supported during treatment
• Customisation – we adjust the treatment depending on your skin type and sensitivity
• Aftercare – we apply targeted products to calm and protect the skin afterwards
When used incorrectly, they can cause micro-cuts, irritation, uneven exfoliation or breakouts. Because they aren’t designed for controlled exfoliation, they often only remove hair rather than properly removing dead skin buildup.
